We couldn’t find any light blue flower lei. We looked in our cooler and there stood the hyacinth flowers.  Let’s try and string it. Beautiful, isn’t it?

Also this white orchid lei, we deviated from the angle style a little and the result is pretty too.

Happy King Kamehameha Day.

kamehameha-day.JPG

It’s a lei lovers’ delight last Friday in Honolulu. Beautiful thirteen foot long lei were draped over the King’s statue to pay tribute to our King Kamehameha.  Check out the week long celebrations at the different islands.

It’s not the flowers, or is it?

(peonies and roses arrangement)

May be it’s not the flowers. No, it is the flowers but something more. You show up to a dinner invitation with a bunch of iris. Thank you so much. It is so beautiful. You show up at your date with her favorite stargazer lilies. Wow. How did you know? It’s my favorite. You clean the house, prepare dinner and set a flower arrangement on the dinning table with her favorite tuberose, gardenia, and spiral ginger. Honey, what is the occasion? The reaction is the flower. Or is it? Flowers are seldom brought or sent in a vacuum with no meaning. It is more than likely that they went together with a wonderful intention – a gesture of appreciation to the host for a dinner invitation, show of love for a special date, or a show of congratulation to the pianist at her recital. Flowers aren’t just backdrop to the occasion. It adds intensity to it. So, bring some flowers for the summer picnic or barbecue, bring flower lei and balloons for a birthday or bridal shower. It’s true. It’s not just the flower; it is the people that bring the flowers and something more.
