Turn your Christmas trees into a wreath and TreeCycle the rest
Trim a few branches and make a wreath for the new year. Local Christmas trees last a lot longer than you think. For the rest of your Christmas tree. Please recycle it. Remove all ornaments. Cut the tree in sections of about 3 feet for curb side pick up. Check your green waste collection at envhonolulu.org
“Please be aware that the State has discontinued the special treecycling sites at parks and other locations around the island. Do not bring your trees to these sites. Island residents can choose curbside collection or drop-off. Condo and commercial buildings can arrange to haul trees directly to composting facilities (no charge for Christmas trees), courtesy of the City”

I lived in Kapahulu. Why are they making it difficult. The closest drop off and composting facilities, Hawaiian Earth Products is all the way in Kapolei at the Campbell Industrial Park and Kapa’a Quarry Road in Kailua. That’s a lot of gas wasted driving one tree down there. Why did they get rid of the treecycling site at the park? Didn’t Mufi Hannemann want to encourage us to recycle?

Dear J.H.
I agree. We should have at least one drop off site in Honolulu. Apparently they have discontinued the multiple drop off sites in 2004. In 2003, Honolulu people can drop off their trees at Kaiser high school, Kapalama Elementary School, Kapiolani Community College, UH Manoa. The Department of Health was in charged of treecycling back then. Mufi Hannemann sworn into office on January 5, 2005, one year after the discontinuation of the Honolulu convenient tree drop off locations so he cannot be blame.
If you don’t like the drive, you can also cut your trees into sections of 3′ in length and put out for green waste pick up.
